What is a beret?

A ‘beret’ is a soft round, Flat-crowned hat, usually of woven hand- knitted wool, crocheted cotton, wool felt or acrylic fiber.

 

How do we wear a beret?

Proper wearing way of beret:

The Beret is designed with a tight-fitting crown that helps hold the hat on the head without the use of elastic. Simple in design, yet offering excellent protection from the cold wind and rain. The Beret has been traced back as far as the early cultures.

The Berets fits singly around the head and can be ‘shaped’   in variety of ways. There is no universal rule of wearing a beret. E.g.- older gentlemen normally wear it squared on the head, jutting forward. It can be worn by both men and women.

Beret are commonly used in the Basque countries i.e.-

  • FRANCE: The beret remains a strong symbol of the unique identity of south western France and is worn while celebrating traditional events.
  • SPAIN: usually known as Boina. They were once a common main head wear across the country.
  • SCOTLAND: there are several Scottish varieties of the Beret.
  • And among various other parts of the worlds

the Beret practically has long made it an item of military police and other uniform clothing. In fashion and culture, the middle of the 20th century saw an explosion of Berets in women fashion. ‘The Cap Factory’ has established something that is very unique and new that we call a designer Berets.

They are high fashion caps specially designed for women and children. Designer Beret add a special meaning to one basic berets and have elongated and defined just a Beret into more useful version that can now be used in high end fashion also.
